Hi there! Welcome to the Shy Tiger webshop. My name is Alexandra and Shy Tiger is a one woman, queer Asian biracial owned and operated small business.
I’m located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.
🪡 I’m responsible for every aspect, from designing the clothes, pattern drafting, sewing, photography, digital design, etc. I started sewing during in 2020, and I’ve grown so much as a seamstress since then.
♻️ All the fabrics I use are carefully sourced and upcycled from vintage materials (curtains, sheets, tea towels, etc). They are reclaimed, repurposed, and reworked in order to breathe new life into discarded and unwanted fabrics. I wholeheartedly believe that in my work as a seamstress and garment maker it is my responsibility to reduce my carbon footprint and to create with environmental sustainability in mind. With some mending, careful deep cleaning and skillful attention to stitching, these once forgotten textiles can last a second lifetime.
🎨 I have a BA in Art History and a background as a painter, with experience painting on fabric for 13+ years. I take inspiration from art history and Chinese motifs in an attempt to reclaim and transform aspects of my cultural heritage into wearable art pieces. Some Shy Tiger pieces are hand painted in addition to being handmade, making them truly one of a kind statement pieces to add to your forever wardrobe 💕
